Our Ethos
LandWEB measures landscape-function and provides landscape feedback to help people heal and care for the land community. We believe in and are dedicated to local community cooperation and self-determination in the crucial work of healing our watershed homes and the whole land community. We know that local communities, united in support of their local land stewards, can do the historic work that will lead to leaving our children deep-topsoil watersheds, sustaining infrastructure, and environmental and economic security.
Decades of work on this front, as land stewards and scientists, have led us, on scientific, neighborly, moral, and practical grounds, to reject the elite-dominated global wave of “the financialization of nature.”
We will not lend our scientific work and efforts to this widespread, misguided attempt to turn all of nature into a new financial asset class, via extractive, alienated frameworks and models like “Nature-Based Solutions,” “Natural Capital,” “ Ecosystem Services,” “Payment for Ecosystem Services,” Carbon Offsets and Carbon Credits, Biodiversity Credits, Wetland Mitigation Banking, Water Trading, “Half Earth,” 30x30 and 50x50, etc.
LandWEB stands with thousands of communities and organizations, hundreds of millions of small, medium and large farms, peasant farmers, Indigenous peoples, and clear-thinking people everywhere who sensibly reject - and will replace - the false solutions and distant control and extraction represented by these ultimately unworkable and deeply unneighborly programs.
There is a better way - a community option- to heal our homes than selling control and legal rights to nature to distant financiers, speculators and polluting corporations. We will apply our expertise, work and cooperation to the community option
